The GMP International Union is one of
the oldest and most respected trade union organizations in the
nation. Our roots go back to the 1840’s, but that tradition is
the only thing old about the GMP International Union.
The GMP has become one of the most progressive Unions, by welcoming new technology (especially the
Internet) and broadening it's membership base of not only glass
workers but also workers in the pottery, fiber glass, plastics,
foundries and many others industries.
The GMP has membership in thirty-three
states in the US as well as members in Canada. The members of the
GMP have remained hand craftsmen, even with the advent of
automation.
The GMP Union is a fraternity of workers,
a brotherhood dedicated to helping one another. In the plant, the
Union members stand together for the common good.
The Local Unions of the GMP are led by elected shop
stewards, local union officers, and committee members who work
closely with the GMP International to protect the interests of all GMP members and their families.
Today the GMP has over 70,000 members and
is growing. Every GMP member is protected by a Union contract
which safeguards job security, assures overtime pay, holidays,
vacations, and other important benefits.
The GMP International Union belongs to
its members. It was founded more than 100 years ago to serve the
working members of the GMP International Union. In order for the GMP Union to serve its
members and their families, it needs the full support of its
members.
With the rich history, tradition and dedicated service that
the members of the Glass, Molder, Pottery Union have grown to
expect and enjoy, our future will only get better.
The GMP Union is
strong because "Our Strength Is In Our Members".
